Fruit juices in childhood, Sneakys Kids Nutrition Fact Sheet
Each time my son and I visit our local supermarket, I gasp at the popularity of apple juice. So many of us are led to believe that apple juice is ideal for children. In fact, the opposite is true. Apple juice is one of the two fruit juices known to cause childhood diarrhoea, which in turn can be a reason why a child may fail to thrive.
In this issue, we take a close look at what children should drink for health and why. Download full fact sheet...>>
Fussy eating; A realistic look at, Sneakys
As a childhood nutritionist, fussy eating is one of the most common concerns I hear from parents. Having lived through the fussy eating years, its interesting to reflect back on the misconceptions that I once had, particularly in relation to the theory of what is supposed to help fussy eaters eat. In hindsight, having a realistic view based on actual experience might have prevented some of those mealtime battles that we all inevitably fall into at some point. Download full fact sheet...>>
How much milk, what type, when and why, Sneakys Tip Sheet
So often, parents ask for advice on milk as a drink. “My daughter won’t drink cows’ milk, what should I do”? “How much cows’ milk should my son drink a day”? “What foods can I give my son who won’t drink cows’ milk; I am worried he isn’t getting enough calcium”? Sound familiar?
If you’ve tried to read up on this topic, it’s likely you were left rather bewildered as the advice tends to be contradictory. This tip-sheet takes a balanced approach: it isn’t pro-milk nor is it anti-milk; it simply provides the options, leaving it up to parents and carers to make an informed choice based on the particulars of their situation. Generally, my advice is to do what works best for you and your family. Download the full fact sheet...>>
